EXPLORING SACRED HERITAGE
Student Infographics and Brochures on Religious Tourism
Religious heritage is more than a collection of sacred buildings and historical sites. It represents the spiritual values, cultural identity, historical memories, and traditions that shape local communities.
Through the English for Religious Tourism course, students of the English Education Department (Tadris Bahasa Inggris), Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, UIN Antasari Banjarmasin, explore the rich religious and cultural heritage of South Kalimantan through creative, research-based, and project-oriented learning activities.
This collection showcases student-created infographics and brochures featuring religious tourism destinations and culturally significant places across the region. Each work presents information about the history, architectural characteristics, religious significance, community activities, and cultural values of the featured destinations. Through research, documentation, and visual storytelling, students transform their findings into informative and visually engaging materials in English.
Beyond developing their English language proficiency, this project encourages students to strengthen their research, critical thinking, information literacy, visual communication, and creative design skills. It also connects classroom learning with real-world contexts through experiential and project-based learning.
More importantly, the project highlights the role of English as a means of introducing local religious and cultural heritage to national and international audiences. By exploring and documenting these destinations, students contribute to promoting awareness of South Kalimantan’s religious tourism potential while developing a deeper appreciation of cultural diversity, historical preservation, and interfaith understanding.
Through these creative projects, students also take on the role of young cultural ambassadors, using English to share the stories, values, and beauty of their local heritage with wider audiences.
